The Draft "Expert" - Wk 10 Quarterback Prospect Rankings

Writer: Logan BlackmanLogan Blackman

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Draft "Expert" blog post! This one, surprisingly, is about the 2022 NFL Draft and, more importantly, the 2022 quarterback class. I would assume all of you are used to this at this point, but here is yet another quarterback list though it is different, because now we are on week 10! Wow!

Now, for this list I will say, this is the most adjustments I have made to a quarterback prospect list this season, with every quarterback, apart from one, moving on this weeks list.

In this list you may see a new number one quarterback, a new face in the top three, some list veterans moving out of the top 10, and possibly one or two new faces that you may not have expected.

So, without any further delays, here is the Draft "Expert's" Week 10 Quarterback Prospect Rankings! Enjoy! (pretty please)

Pictured: Kenny Pickett, Pitt; Malik Willis, Liberty; Jayden Daniels, Arizona State

1. Matt Corral, Ole Miss (+1)

Wk 10 - 20/27 324 yds 1 touchdown 0 interceptions/6 carries 9 yds 0 interceptions v Liberty (27-14 W)

Season - 182/272 2,527 yds 16 touchdowns 2 interceptions/116 carries 528 yds 10 touchdowns

  • Corral had a very easy day on Saturday, passing for 324 yards with a touchdown while only missing on seven passes (with a few drops in there). When I say easy, I mean, it was really easy. Though the Flames came into the game with a top 10 defense, you could tell the Ole Miss offense was too much to handle, and it showed early on with a Jerrion Ealy scoring on a 70-yard run on the second play of the game. Everything Ole Miss wanted to do on offense pretty much worked, and it was made easier by Liberty only applying one quarterback hurry the entire game. During the game, Corral posted 324 passing yards and one touchdown while only throwing seven incompletions throughout the game, with a few of them being pretty bad drops by the receivers. It's not that Corral did anything particularly special on Saturday, he didn't need to, he just played a very safe and very solid game against a solid Liberty defense, while playing hurt I might add. With this game, I think it's hard to say Corral isn't the number one QB at this point and time, and though he may have passed Willis with his performance on Saturday, I think the biggest thing we can take away from this game is that you shouldn't doubt either quarterback. Both Corral and Willis possess excellent leadership qualities, are tough as shite, and will never back down from a challenge. Speaking of challenges, Corral and co. have a tough challenges this weekend, taking on the Aggies of Texas A&M, who have one of the better pass defenses in college football. Saturday night will be fun down in Oxford.

Wk 10 - 16/25 173 yds 0 touchdowns 3 interceptions/27 carries 71 yds 1 touchdown @ no.16 Ole Miss (27-14 L)

Season - 156/235 2,159 yds 21 touchdowns 9 interceptions/153 carries 755 yds 10 touchdowns

  • Imma be honest (and obvious) real quick, this week was not Malik Willis' best week this season. For the first time since Liberty's bowl game last season against Coastal Carolina, Willis did not throw for a single touchdown in the game. Much like that bowl game, Willis also threw a few more interceptions than you'd like, throwing three against an alright (at best) Ole Miss defense. All that being said, I think Willis deserves some credit here. After the first quarter, Willis had been sacked five times, finishing with eight sacks for the game. Liberty's o-line couldn't hold the Ole Miss pass rush back whatsoever. The biggest threat off the edge was Ole Miss d-end Sam Williams, who now leads the country in sacks with 10.5. In the game, Williams registered a career high two sacks and registered his most tackles in a game since October 24th of 2020, totaling eight tackles against Liberty on Saturday. To along with the o-line struggling to stop a nose bleed, I think Willis' other issue was the fact that he was trying to do too much, registering a career high 27 carries against this Rebels defense. He ran a lot and his interceptions, mainly the last one, were a result of him trying to make a play that wasn't there. One thing we can't, and won't, bash Willis on is heart. Going on the road against a top 25 team and kept his team in the game despite the lack of protection. Though statistically, Willis didn't have his best game, I think there's a lot you can take away from this game. Like I said with Corral above, Willis' toughness and character will get him far, he just needs to stop trying to do too much. I have no doubt in my mind he'll be back at number one here soon.

Season - 235/342 3,171 yds 29 touchdowns 3 interceptions/72 carries 242 yds 4 touchdowns

  • Finally, Kenny Pickett has entered the top three in the Draft "Expert's" latest quarterback rankings. Now, some would say that this honor was deserved a long time ago, but based on where he started the season, I feel the gradual jump is better than just instantly placing him the top three, that's just my opinion. Either way, Kenny Pickett's spot in the top three is very well deserved. After posting great numbers all season, Pickett and co. took a struggling Duke team to the sword, even though it may have happened a little later than originally expected, Pitt still walked out of there with a 25-point dub on the road. Individually, Pickett put forward an excellent performance, throwing for 416 yards with three touchdowns and no picks, along with rushing for 57 yards with a touchdown there as well. Those numbers, both the passing and the running game, were good for his second best totals of the season and as of right now, Pickett sits third nationally in passing touchdowns and fifth in yards with only three interceptions to his name this season. Though in my last mock draft I had the Steelers taking Nevada's Carson Strong, I think if Pickett keeps playing like he has, I don't think he'd have to travel very far to play football at the next level. This week against North Carolina will be a very fun game to watch, with both offenses seemingly scoring at will at the moment, we could see a lot of fireworks from the top two guys in the ACC.

Season - 289/410 3,197 yds 25 touchdowns 7 interceptions/33 carries -123 yds 0 touchdowns

  • As predicted last week, San Jose State gave Nevada a run for their money on Saturday, with a last second field goal separating overtime and a Wolf Pack win in regulation. Even though Nevada came out on top Saturday, this was not one of Carson Strong's best performances. Though Strong threw for 300+ yards and a touchdown, it is the first time this season that Strong has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, and the first time he's tossed more than one this season, throwing two on Saturday. Not only is this the first time this season Strong has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, it is the first time since October 26th against Wyoming, all the way back in 2019. Now, this obviously wasn't Strong's strongest performance, but he's still got the tools to be a somewhat top pick in the upcoming draft. Much like last week, this week presents a nice little test for Strong and the Wolf Pack, as they take on San Diego State on the road. It is pretty well known that the Aztecs have a top defense, so Strong will have to put this past game against San Jose State in his rearview mirror, and put together a nice performance on the road against a good defense while hopefully coming away with the upset.

Season - 158/248 2,121 yds 20 touchdowns 5 interceptions/67 carries 214 yds 4 touchdowns

  • This is the third straight game where Cincinnati has more or less struggled against a sub .500 team. After beating both Navy and Tulane, who have a combined record of 2-15, they struggled against a 3-6 Tulsa team who just lost to Navy a week prior. Like the game against Tulane, at halftime, the score was 14-12 in favor of Cincinnati. Now, unlike the last two games, this game for the Bearcats was back at Nippert Stadium. I really don't know what's going on with Cincinnati as of late, but for people who don't believe they deserve to be in the Playoff probably feel vindicated for that thinking thanks to the last three games. That being said, Desmond Ridder did have himself a decent game against Tulsa, which was pretty expected. In the game, Ridder threw for 274 yards with two touchdowns through the air, adding another touchdown on the ground while leading Cincinnati in rushing with 43 yards. Now, obviously the dub is the most important thing here, but Cincy would've loved to take it to Tulsa on Saturday. Hopefully we get some better performances from Cincy so we can see Ridder crawl his way back up the list.

6. Sam Howell, North Carolina

Wk 10 - 16/26 216 yds 1 touchdown 0 interceptions/21 carries 104 yds 2 touchdowns v no.9 Wake Forest (58-55 W)

Season - 169/268 2,408 yds 20 touchdowns 7 interceptions/135 carries 689 yds 8 touchdowns

  • Sam Howell and North Carolina are back in the win column after defeating an undefeated Wake Forest team at home this past Saturday. Like many time this season, Howell showed off his abilities as a rusher, totaling over 100 yards on the ground for the fourth time this season while also setting a new career high in carries with 21. This was the fourth straight game Howell has rushed for 90+ yards and third game in a row where he has registered a touchdown on the ground as well, totaling eight for the season. Through the air though this week, Howell didn't really need to do a whole lot, throwing for 216 yards and a touchdown, which is the third time in UNC's last four games that Howell has registered less than 220 yards passing. I think Howell's toughness and willingness to run makes him a very intriguing prospect. We've all known about his passing ability, and prior to the season starting we stated that he was an underrated athlete, but I didn't think he'd be posting rushing numbers near Malik Willis (less than 100 yards below Willis). I just think that Howell's biggest issue is his, and North Carolina's consistency. They're both extremely entertaining to watch yet, in the same breath, very frustrating to watch. Howell has done a lot to keep North Carolina above .500 and I'm excited to see what he does against Pitt this Thursday. That game will be a lot of fun.

Season - 188/301 2,873 yds 27 touchdowns 5 interceptions/62 carries 285 yds 8 touchdowns

  • Sadly, Wake Forest's magical undefeated season has come to an end, losing to Sam Howell and the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday 58-55. Despite the loss, Sam Hartman put together a very impressive performance, totaling seven touchdowns (five through the air and two on the ground) with almost 500 yards of total offense. As we said last week, like a surprising amount of quarterbacks in this draft, Sam Hartman is having himself a career year, and continued his good statistical showing against a tough, though inconsistent, North Carolina team. This week, Hartman and co. will be taking on the top 25 ranked NC State Wolfpack, led by another nice quarterback in the form of Devin Leary, who himself is having a nice career year. I'm very excited to see how both quarterbacks do because both have put their names in the draft conversation. For Hartman though, his use of his legs has been very fun to watch, as his running ability has helped extend drives for Wake Forest this season. If he keeps balling out like he has been, he could move up even higher than three spots.

Wk 10 - 15/20 316 yds 4 touchdowns 0 interceptions/11 carries 41 yds 0 touchdowns @ no.18 Kentucky (45-42 W)

Season - 129/186 1,894 yds 21 touchdowns 2 interceptions/112 carries 457 yds 4 touchdowns

  • Welcome to the top 10 Tennessee's Hendon Hooker! Now, this shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone that Hooker is in the top 10, hell, he's been balling out ever since he took the starting job from Joe Milton earlier this season. So far this season, Hooker has tossed 21 touchdowns to just two interceptions while also being a real threat to run the ball, rushing for 457 yards and four touchdowns. I think one of the best things about Hooker is the fact that he doesn't back down from the big boys. Against Florida, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Kentucky (all top 20 at the time Tennessee played them) he's completed 64 of 97 passes for 1,052 yards with 10 touchdowns and just one interception, with every game, apart from the Ole Miss game, being on the road. This week though was arguably his best, throwing for 316 yards with four touchdowns through the air and no interceptions, while also adding 41 yards on the ground (he did total 108 yards rushing against Ole Miss). Look, all in all, we shouldn't be that surprised that Hooker is playing well, as he was a very solid quarterback during his time at Virginia Tech. Like Pickett though, Hooker is having himself a career year and has thrown his name into the conversation of being one of the top quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft. This week, Hooker and co. are taking on the nation's number one team, the Georgia Bulldogs, at home. Everyone knows Georgia has the nation's top defense, but is there anyway the Knoxville crowd can get behind the Vols to make this competitive? Who knows? I do know though that Hooker's going to give everything to try and take down the mighty Bulldogs, however unlikely that may be. All in all, welcome to the top 10 Hendon Hooker!

  • Not really a whole lot to say about DTR this week as the Bruins had a bye week. Hopefully we see DTR back in action this weekend against a 3-6 Colorado team that is coming off an impressive win over Oregon State in overtime. Remember, DTR got hurt in the final drive against Oregon and didn't play the next week against Utah, so hopefully he plays and balls out against this Buffaloes defense at home.

Season - 150/223 1,879 yds 7 touchdowns 7 interceptions/84 carries 482 yds 4 touchdowns

  • Jayden Daniels is one of the more frustrating quarterbacks in college football. So far this season, Daniels has only thrown a touchdown in back-to-back games once and has yet to reach the double digit mark in passing touchdowns as a whole, while also equalling his number of touchdowns with interceptions, throwing two this past week against USC. Now, though he hasn't been finding the end-zone with regularity this season through the air, he still has some insane tools to make plays all over the field. He's an extremely athletic quarterback who can make plays both through the air and with his feet in the run game. This week though, against the nation's top passing defense, we may see Daniels turn more to the rushing attack, especially since Washington has the second worst rush defense in the PAC-12, above only Stanford. I want Daniels to do well but if he isn't careful, and doesn't put together more consistent performances, he will be at risk of falling outside of the top 10.
